Where the Magic Happens…

When a bride and her family and friends come into London and Lace, we go through the tour of our shop. We like to show them the designers that we carry and the different styles that are on the hangers. Once the bride has chosen the dresses that she likes, Lisa takes her into the dressing room to start the process. At this moment, I direct the onlookers to the couch and chair that is in front of our grand mirror. Before I tell you about this mirror, let me tell you about the couch and chairs. We found these beautiful pieces of furniture at an estate sale. The moment we saw them we knew that they were what we were looking for. We have no idea how old they are, but the wood carvings on them are absolutely stunning and truly deserve to be in a room with our brides. And this mirror, oh my!! It is extremely hard not to look amazingly beautiful when you are standing in front of it. We found this mirror almost a year before the store was opened and it stayed in storage until two days before we opened. Driving this mirror from the storage was one of the scariest feelings I have ever had. We laid it down on a flatbed trailer, and had to drive it for 5 miles through the heart of Columbia. Every pothole and every bird that flew over head terrified me, for fear of the glass cracking, but we made it without a single scratch. The frame was old and dusty, and we thought we were going to have to paint it. But Lisa found this furniture restoring polish at Lowe’s, and started to apply it to the frame. What we found was that the mirror frame used to be gold, but had faded away. Not all of it, mind you, but the majority of it was gone. But just enough was left, to highlight the beautiful wood tones that came out from the polish. The end result is this straight out of a fairy tale mirror that we have for our brides to view themselves in the dresses. It is truly incredible, and that is why I like to use the saying, “over here in front of the mirror, is where the magic happens.” Don’t you think it is time that you experienced some magic. The dress that you see in the mirror today is by Ersa Atelier, a designer that will truly bring out the magic in your wedding. Book an appointment soon to come see if we have the gown for you at London and Lace.
